On June 28, 1928, Louis Armstrong and his Hot Five recorded West End Blues in Chicago. His 15-second trumpet solo intro and eight-bar solo near the end became one of the most influential pieces of recorded music in history. It was also one of the earliest recorded examples of scat singing.
